I have no illusions about what little I can add now to the silent testimony of those who gave their lives willingly for their country. Words are even more feeble on this Memorial Day, for the sight before us is that of a strong and good nation that stands in silence and remembers those who were loved and who, in return, loved their countrymen enough to die for them.

Today, in the year 1983, President Ronald Reagan placed flowers at the Vietnam Memorial. Today, in the year 1942, Ronald Reagan began active duty in the 323rd Calvary. However, due to eyesight difficulties, he was only classified for limited service and was therefore excluded from serving overseas. He later was assigned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit in Culver City, California, where he would eventually be promoted to Captain.

Today the world lost won of its greatest fighters for freedom in Margaret Thatcher’s passing. She was one of the few in Western Europe who had the courage to stand up courageously in the face of socialism. Her efforts felt around the world will never be forgotten.

Today in the year 1987, President Ronald Reagan met with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to discuss the Intermediate Nuclear Forces talks.

Henry Kissinger served as National Security Advisor and later concurrently as Secretary of State in the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Dr. Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for helping to establish a ceasefire and the US withdrawal from Vietnam.
